Bodegas J. Fernando Presents Its Wines in Korea and Japan: A Journey to Conquer Asia

The chance in Asia

Spanish wine is experiencing a moment of expansion in Asian markets. Countries such as South Korea and Japan have become strategic destinations for wineries seeking to reach curious, discerning, and increasingly knowledgeable consumers.
From Bodegas J. Fernando, we had the privilege of taking part in a trade mission organized by IPEX (the Foreign Trade Institute of Castilla-La Mancha) from September 23 to 26, where we presented our range of wines defined by a strong identity and sense of origin.

This experience was not just another trip on our international calendar—it marked a decisive step toward bringing our wines closer to two markets that truly value quality, elegance, and authenticity. Both in Seoul and Tokyo, attendees had the chance to discover our wines firsthand through two Grand Tastings aimed at industry professionals, receiving an overwhelmingly positive response.

South Korea: A Growing Market

On September 23, we gathered at The Ambassador Seoul – A Pullman Hotel, in the heart of the South Korean capital. During four intense hours, we shared the presentation table with some of the most representative wineries from Castilla-La Mancha. The Korean professional audience, made up of importers, distributors, and specialized press, showed growing interest in Spanish wines.

According to data from ICEX, South Korea has experienced significant growth in wine consumption in recent years. Although the market was traditionally dominated by French wines, there is now increasing space for fresh, modern, and good value-for-money options—an excellent opportunity for wines from Castilla-La Mancha. The South Korean consumer, increasingly young and cosmopolitan, appreciates fruity, approachable wines that pair easily with local cuisine.

In this context, our Flor Salvaje, the semi-sweet frizzante white, drew particular interest. With its low alcohol content, sparkling character, and fruity profile, it proved to be one of the most appreciated options among an audience seeking refreshing and contemporary experiences.

Japan: Tradition and Modernity at the Table

Two days later, on September 25, our journey took us to Tokyo, where the emblematic Hibiya Palace hosted a double session: a pairing lunch and a professional tasting. The event brought together importers, sommeliers, and representatives from Japan’s hospitality sector—renowned for their attention to detail and deep respect for quality products.

During the lunch held at the Hibiya Palace restaurant, one of the dishes was paired with our VQ Sauvignon Blanc, produced under the Finca Venta de Don Quijote project, part of Bodegas J. Fernando. The harmony between the wine and the delicacy of Japanese cuisine was perfect, confirming that our wines naturally adapt to gastronomic cultures that value subtlety and balance.

Later, during the professional showroom, Flor Salvaje once again took the spotlight. Its freshness and light character, together with a soft, pleasant finish, made it one of the most appreciated wines of the event, reaffirming its potential in the Asian market.

Flor Salvaje: The Wine That Wins Over Palates

Among the wines presented, Flor Salvaje emerged as the great revelation of the mission. This semi-sweet, frizzante white wine, made from 100% Verdejo grapes, represents the freshest, most spontaneous, and modern side of Bodegas J. Fernando

  • Color: Bright, straw-yellow, clean, and luminous.
  • Nose: Intense aromas of tropical fruits such as pineapple and passion fruit, accompanied by citrus notes.
  • Palate: Smooth and fresh, with fruity nuances. Its fine bubbles add liveliness, while balanced acidity supports a sweet, light finish.

In markets such as Japan and South Korea, where there is a growing taste for fresh, low-alcohol beverages, Flor Salvajepositions itself as the perfect wine for social occasions and for those seeking a sophisticated alternative to more traditional drinks.

Trends Shaping the Future

According to ICEX market studies, wine consumption continues to grow steadily in both Korea and Japan.
In South Korea, this growth is driven by a younger audience discovering wine through modern, approachable options. In Japan, while the market is more mature, there is rising demand for aromatic whites, frizzantes, and low-alcohol wines—categories in which our wines stand out for their personality and balance.

Both countries share a key trait: a preference for honest wines, crafted with care, and a strong sense of identity. In this regard, the Bodegas J. Fernando project perfectly embodies that vision—wines that express their Spanish origin, deep respect for the land, and a clear commitment to connecting with an international audience.

A Journey That Opens New Paths

Our participation in this mission, alongside other wineries from Castilla-La Mancha, has allowed us not only to showcase our wines but also to gain deeper insight into consumption trends in Asia and strengthen our international strategy.

The support of IPEX has been key in facilitating logistics, organizing presentations, and connecting us with the main players in the sector in both countries. This backing demonstrates Castilla-La Mancha’s commitment to the internationalization of its wine industry.

A Promising Future in Asia

The trip to Korea and Japan has been a confirmation: the wines of Castilla-La Mancha have much to offer Asian markets. Flor Salvaje has won over palates with its freshness and sparkle, while VQ Sauvignon Blanc has showcased its versatility at the table.

We are convinced that this is only the beginning of an exciting journey. Asia is seeking wines that are authentic, approachable, and full of personality, and at Bodegas J. Fernando, we will continue working to ensure that Vinos de la Tierra de Castilla find in Korea, Japan, and other countries in the region a place to grow and thrive.
